Acupuncture qualifications

Acupuncture qualifications
Acupuncture is a famous
method of therapy. There are many practitioners who treat their
patients using acupuncture. There are many misinformations regarding
acupuncture that are provided by practitioners. Acupuncture is not
recognized as one of the separate branches of medicine and therefore
the qualifications that are required for acupuncture are not exactly
known by the people. It is known that there are acupuncture schools
that teach the art of acupuncture to the people. An acupuncturist also
needs an apprenticeship. He needs to work under a professional
acupuncturist for some time. This gives him some experience which is
much needed for a professional practitioner.
Licensed acupuncturists are often enraged by the fact that there are
‘weekend acupuncture workshops’ or ‘acupuncture videotapes’ in the
market. There are also some other misinformation that doctors are
better acupuncturists. The professionally trained and the licensed
acupuncturists are always the better choice. This is because they have
over 2000 hours of experience and teaching. This makes them better
trained in the field. There is no clear indication on how the medical
acupuncturists are trained or why they receive only 10% of the
education as the licensed acupuncturists. However, there are patients
who undergo both the types of medications and no serious cases have
been reported till today.
The world health organization determined the requirements for education
and training for acupuncture such that it should possess prior
education and intended application of acupuncture. For categories are
suggested by WHO as guidelines to complete a training as acupuncture
practitioner. As per the category 1, people with no medical training
for less than 2000 hours will be admitted as qualified acupuncturist.
Category 2 refers to the physicians wanting to practice solely
acupuncture. Such treatments are difficult as it refers to physicians
who will not employ any conventional treatments from the western
medical specialty. So for this category minimum 1500 hours of training
is essential. Category 3 includes physicians desiring to add
acupuncture to the medical specialty they already possess. Such
physicians should possess training for not less than 200 hours.
Similarly, category 4 refers to health care personnel who want to
specialize in a particular aspect of treatment through acupuncture. For
instance, social workers or nurses desire to become acupuncture
detoxification specialists.
